Our First Trip To Portland! 😆
We did it, as nerve-wracking and awkward as it was, we now have successfully frozen sperm ready to go!
We landed in Portland the morning of the 23rd, got checked into our hotel, and walked around the city a bit, grabbing an early lunch before our appointment at ORM. When we arrived for our appointment we were very nervous, more so about what the results would be, but everything was well organized and the setting inside made us feel more comfortable. The first step was having yet another blood draw and urine sample to confirm no diseases and healthy... everything checked out so onto the next step.
They send us up a floor to the "donation" area where we check in and wait to be called to rooms. I think we spent more time laughing with each other about the situation, it was a little awkward for us, but this is what we needed to do. So they call us in, explain how we need to ejaculate into this cup, and at this point, we are both beet red in the face, they proceed to ask if we would like to do it in the same room or separate rooms... we both immediately respond with "separate" as if we didn't even know each other, but it was just our nerves and wanting to get it out of the way. So we got the job done, separately lol, and we place our cups on the little counter as instructed and head out of the building.
The rest of the afternoon we spent walking around town, checking out stores, while eagerly awaiting our results. Right after sperm collection, they do a freeze/thaw cycle to a portion of the sample to test the volume, concentration, and motility rate which will tell us if our sperm is suitable for embryo creation. We are on pins and needles at this point and in the late afternoon, we get a message that our results are ready for review in our portal, and we both let out a huge sigh of relief as we read that we passed with flying colors and there is nothing further needed from us!
So with that crazy adventure out of the way and checked off the list, we enjoyed our evening out in Portland, having a nice dinner and laughing with each other about our experience... but also overjoyed in the fact we are one step closer to creating our family. The next day we head home back to Minnesota with excitement, and anxiously await to hear what our next steps are with the egg donor.
